Article and PowerPoint Presentation - Libraries in a Google World. G is for Google, H is for Harry, L is for Library …. and ten ideas about public libraries in a Google World.

The article/presentation discussed how Google searches worked and how vastly different they work from how a library would do a search. Also focussed on the fact libraries are actual venues whereas Google is just a site. And that libraries should really push and publicize this point. And then summarized her presentation with ten ideas/points that all libraries should consider.
I found her article/presentation to be very thought provoking. Some of the ideas she suggested, she knew that libraries wouldn’t be happy with. But she basically said get over it and work with it. Local libraries need to focus on their local history. No other person/place are in a position to do this, libraries have the perfect opportunity here to look after the local history for their area. Libraries should also be aware that times are changing, and instead of putting heads in sand, run at the opportunities it presents. They have to look at how they do things. Is it relevant for now.  And always look to the future. The article also made me look at the way eresources are accessed. Libraries around Australia and the world, now have access to eBooks. You log into their catalogue and go to download an eBook, the catalogue then diverts you to another page, this is where you download your eBook. This page actually belongs to another company. And all the libraries mentioned were directed to this site. Apparently, the library pays a membership to this site to have access to eBooks for their catalogue.
Plus through this article, I had a really good look at Google because I found a couple of things I didn’t know I could do. So I went to investigate. It was really interesting, the things you find out.
